Welcome to Mount Ommaney Special School

As Principal of Mount Ommaney Special School, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the community of Mount Ommaney Special School and the Mount Ommaney Early Childhood Development Program. Our school built in 1992 is located close to the Centenary Highway in the suburb of Mount Ommaney. The school logo is the rampant horse which is also the suburb's logo. The school services areas beyond the Centenary suburbs including Fig Tree Pocket, Kenmore, Indooroopilly, Oxley, Durack, Camira, Forest Lake and Springfield Lakes.

This school community is a welcoming group of dedicated professional special educators, therapists, nurses and teacher aides. Staff work closely with families and carers to achieve the best possible education and quality of life outcomes for students with high support needs. The school actively recruits volunteers to assist with our programming options, and I would like to acknowledge the efforts of a core of long term supporters of the school community. Every member of this partnership will tell you, "we are here for the children."

Mount Ommaney offers educational programs for students with an identified disability from birth to eighteen years. Programs for students of non-compulsory age are delivered through the Mount Ommaney Early Childhood Development Program. In addition to programming offered by ECDPs our program offers a full time alternative option for students of Prep age who are likely to require a special school full time in the future. The ECDP also provides outreach support and dual placements to students with disabilities at neighbouring Primary Schools.

We are proud to be a state special school and part of the Department of Education and Training. We have a purpose built campus with quality facilities including an indoor hydrotherapy and spa pool. The school design was awarded the 1994 Queensland Division BOMA (Building Owners and Managers Association of Australia). In 2007, the school constructed a highly unique adventure playground for students with high support needs including a wheelchair swing and a hopsadress gait trainer.

In 2006, the school was a regional winner and state finalist in the Media Monitors Showcase Award for Excellence with the school's cycle program.

For appropriate students the school offers programming options based on the MOVE curriculum.

If you read our School Annual Report, you will notice that our parents and carers consistently report a very high level of satisfaction with the school and the learning opportunities provided for their child. I believe this has been achieved by the close working relationship which is encouraged between staff and parents. Our childrens' learning and welfare is a shared partnership and parents are welcomed into the school.

I invite you to search the school's website and learn a little about our school community through our site. If you are a parent or carer of a child with a disability, or an educator or volunteer interested in working with us, I encourage you contact by telephone on 3717-6888 or email:
